Q:Can I insure my aircraft under a syndicate or group name?
A:You can insure your aircraft under a group name. You will need to add the groups name and all the pilots of the group in the application process. We will use the person who is applying as the main contact. The group name will be shown as the policyholder. The group cannot operate the aircraft for any commercial use or to make a profit. You should contact the CAA who can provide information if you feel you are not complying and that you may fall under rental / commercial use.

Q:Am I covered to carry passengers if we are "Cost Sharing" the flight?
A:Yes you are covered. As a private pilot you are allowed to carry up to six cost-sharing passengers in a light aircraft providing, no profit is made. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says costs do not have to be shared equally but the pilot must make a contribution. We suggest you contact the CAA if you are in any doubt of the rules around this. No profit is allowed in this situation, as that would make it a commercial flight for which an Air Operator Certificate would be needed from the CAA. It is illegal to conduct commercial flights without that certificate.

Q:Whats Insurance Premium Tax or IPT?
A:Insurance Premium Tax (IPT) is a tax on general insurance premiums. The IPT to be paid on the premium is determined by the country of registration of the aircraft. The physical location of the aircraft is irrelevant, e.g. an aircraft that is registered in the UK but based in France is located in the UK and pays UK Tax. Commercial aircraft is exempt from IPT. Our system will allocate the applicable tax to the country of aircraft registration.
